I just got a dock w/ speakers for my birthday, and just 2 weeks ago i lost my 4 GB 2nd gen. nano. So I’m thinking of saving up to buy a third gen nano and i was just curious.

They all work fine. They are universal.
It should work fine unless you mean the ipod nano w/video. Those are wider.
